The much anticipated first weekend of the season kicks off tomorrow with First XV facing neighbours Penallta @ Trinity Fields whilst the Warriors are away in RTB and the Youth are home to Blackwood Youth.
The 1st XV face a huge challenge in what will be a very difficult league. Penallta finished 6th in Division One last term winning 11 out of their 22 games, drawing 1 and losing 10.
League fixtures between the clubs started back in 2010 with Penallta winning both home and away fixtures 23-17 and 26-15 respectively.
There was also a Cup victory for The Pitmen winning 19-10 in October 2010.
Going back a little further the clubs had met in a friendly which was played on a wet soggy night in 2000 which again Penallta won! History it would appear be very much in favour of our neighbours over the river!
Penallta have enjoyed considerable success over the last 10 years, most notably gaining respective promotions as well as securing the Swalec Plate in 2012.
Never the less Fleur De Lys will go into the game aiming to give 100% as they have done in all pre season and look to come away with a victory! Good Luck to both teams on what will be a great occasion for local grass roots rugby.
Kick off at the Trinity Fields this Saturday (6th sept) is 2.30pm.
