Fleur 12 - 28 Caerphilly

Fleur went into the game with confidence after some encouraging recent performances. Unfortunately we left empty handed against a well drilled Caerphilly team. Caerphilly raced into a early 14 point lead playing a expansive game. As the rain started to fall Fleur realised if they were going to get back into the game they would need to use their superior scrum and take the game to the visitors in the forwards. After a period of pressure following a number of pick and drives the ball was kicked through and kris Wheeler was held back in the chase and the referee awarded a penalty try. Within minutes Caerphilly restored their 14 point lead with another try. In the second half Fleur battled to get back into the game but persisted in trying to play Caerphilly at their own game rather than playing to their strengths upfront. Caer then had their replacement prop sin binned and with a 5 yard scrum elected to go passive although their starting loosehead left the field at half time in a tactical substitution rather than for a injury. However pressure in the corner told and Owen Swift forced himself over in the corner to make the score 12-21. But again rather than playing to our strengths we continued to try and play Caerphilly at their own game resulting in them scoring a fourth try. In the final moments Fleur rallied but were unable to add to their score and the game ended in a 12-28 defeat.
