Fleur 5 point bonus clinches vital safety bonus

Fleur produced their best rugby to date as they beat a big Dowlais side on Wednesday (30th April) night by 26 points to 24.

2 tries in each half together with three Scott Turner conversations saw off the home side despite a late unconverted try by setting the nerves jangling.

Fleur came into the match needing 3 points to ensure safety knowing that a loss would see them face off with Garndiffaith on the following Saturday.

Tries by Greg Williams and Julian Poole in the first half and a conversion saw Fleur trail by 19 points to 12. The hosts scoring 3 tries, one from a chip and chase and two from powerful scrummaging by the home eight.

A lovely chip by scrum half James Hallet (on permit from Senghenydd) saw centre Jeremy Parsons pounce and the centre went in for his 11th try of the season. The try went unconverted and the scores tied at 19 a piece.

A turning point though ten minutes from time saw great handling from the Fleur team. A great turnover from Adam Johnson just on half way saw the ball spun out right. Simon Veale at Full Back found supporting Number 8 Paul Muller combine with right wing Julian Poole and Luke Morgan to put Morgan away in the corner.

A great conversion from Turner put his side into a 7 point lead.

Two late yellow card for Paul Muller and Luke Morgan saw the away side conceed great pressure from the home side. They eventually yielded a try in the 78th minute but the relief of the travelling supporters the conversion went wide.

With 13 men Fleur defended the last 60 seconds like demons and got the reward they fought so hard to get. 5 points and Division one rugby next season
